Farmers' market coming to Parramore

Imagine a farmer’s market in Parramore.

Soon you won’t have to imagine it.

Plans are currently being hatched to open a farmers’ market in Parramore this fall – late October or early November.

The farmers’ market plan was discussed briefly last week during the Parramore/Holden Heights community meeting.

Lynn Nicholson, who heads up the Parramore Community garden, said that the Parramore market would be held Saturdays at the major league soccer stadium on West Church Street.

Farmers’ markets are popular through Central Florida. They’re held weekly at Lake Eola, Audubon Park, MetroWest, Winter park, Winter garden and elsewhere.

A farmers’ market can be particularly helpful in Parramore, which is considered a food desert by some where it can be difficult to get fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to produce, some farmers’ markets offer opportunities for people to sell crafts and other products.

During last week’s meeting Mr. Nicholson said plans are still being firmed up on what will be offered at the Parramore market and he’s seeking suggestions.
