Activist calls for police review board to make itself more accessible

Orlando activist T.J. Legacy is calling for the city to make meetings of the Orlando Citizens Police Review Board more accessible to the public.

The board, charged with reviewing police misconduct cases investigated by OPD internal affairs, typically meets at Orlando City Hall at 8 a.m. on the first Wednesday of the month.

Mr. Legacy addressed the board Wednesday morning to request the removal of the police union chief and another Orlando police officer who posted hateful, racist messages on social media.

In addition to Mr. Legacy there was only a handful of people and city staff at the meeting. neither the meeting time or location are convenient for most working people.

Mr. Legacy told the board that he had to take paid time off from his job to attend the meeting.

After the meeting, Mr. Legacy said he wants the city to set a more convenient time – at 6 p.m. so that more people can attend the meetings to express their concerns about police.
