Big Pine Hills meeting on Tuesday

The Pine Hills pedestrian and safety study will be the top agenda item at Tuesday’s Pine Hills Community Council meeting.

That Orange County study is focused on busy Pine Hills and Silver Star roads to make those thoroughfares safer for vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians in the area.

The Pine Hills Trail is set to officially open its first leg later this month. The path – reserved strictly for pedestrians and bicycles – is planned to cross the sprawling Pine Hills community and connect the Shingle Creek Trail with the Seminole-Wekiva Trail.

In addition to traffic and transportation other big news in the community includes the opening of the rebuilt Mollie Ray Elementary School and opening the new Oak Hill Elementary School – both serving Pine Hills. Together those schools add up to nearly $40 million of new public investment in the Pine Hills area.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Pine Hills Community Center, 6408 N. Jennings Road, just off Powers Drive.
