Make way for the new Carver Middle School

The old Carver Middle School is coming down, but the new Carver is already built and ready to welcome its first guests on Wednesday.

A sneak peek event will be held 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the school, 4500 West Columbia Drive. The event is open to students, parents, alumni and residents.

The new Carver, built at a cost of $38 million, is so large you would think it’s a college campus.

The project includes new classrooms, laboratories, media center, cafeteria, gym and more.

Money for this project and other schools being rebuilt and overhauled across Orange County came from a half-cent sales tax approved by voters. The half cent raised $4 billion for school construction.

Aug. 14 is the first day of school.
