The new Rock Lake Elementary will be open for visitors on Monday

Get a sneak peek at the extreme makeover of Rock Lake Elementary School on Monday.

The school at 408 N. Tampa Ave. -- not far from Camping World Stadium -- was rebuilt at a cost of $21 million. Parents, students, alumni and neighbors are invited to visit between 4 and 6 p.m. Monday.

School Board Member Kat Gordon plans to be on hand to chat with the public.

The makeover included the administrative offices, classrooms, cafeteria, art and music labs, expanded parking lot, covered walkways and student drop-off loop. New computers and other technology was added to classrooms

The money was provided through a voter referendum to impose a half-cent sales tax that has raised $4 billion for Orange County public school construction.

Unlike many other school districts, new schools are typically being built in the newly developed neighborhoods. However, the deal to impose the tax required the district to build new schools or perform major overhauls at schools in older communities.

Orange County has the 10th largest school district in the nation.
