Beyond the typical Summer Bible camps at many local churches, the Orlando area has a wide variety of activities that are fun; kids will do something productive and learn, and these activities don’t cost a fortune either.
Orlando
The offers summer recreation programs at all 16 of its community and neighborhood centers.
The summer camp program offers swimming, crafts, indoor and outdoor activities, field trips, computer labs and special events. Lunch and snacks are provided. It’s free for those who receive EBT.
The program runs weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for children between the ages of 5 and 15.
The fee is $60 weekly for city residents; $100 weekly for non-city residents.
You can register at the neighborhood center closest to your home. Bring 2 proof of residency to register, and proof of income and EBT ID if you’re requesting free registration.
City neighborhood centers serving west Orlando include:
· Callahan Neighborhood Center, 101 N. Parramore Ave.
· Downtown Recreation Center, 363 N. Parramore Ave.
· Hankins Park Center, 1340 Lake Park Drive
· Ivey Lane Neighborhood Center, 291 Silverton St.
· Jackson Neighborhood Center, 1002 W. Carter St.
· Northwest Community Center, 3955 W.D. Judge Drive
· Rosemont Neighborhood Center, 4872 Rose Bay Drive
· Smith Neighborhood Center, 1723 Bruton Blvd.
Orange County
The county’s summer program Camp Scooter is offered at several of its community centers.
The program is open to children who have finished kindergarten through to those in the 5th grade.
The fees start and 80 per week, with discounts for families that qualify for free- or reduced-price lunches. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. When registering you must bring proof of residency and documents to show if you qualify for discounts.
The centers serving West Orange that are offering Camp Scooter include:

· Silver Star Recreation Center, 2901 N. Apopka Vineland Road
Orange County Public Library
The library is offering its Melrose Camps this summer.
These camps offer a wide variety of classes that allow children to expand their STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) skills in the Melrose Center on the second floor of downtown’s main library at the corner of Central and Magnolia.
Participants will have opportunities to do everything from building their own website to work with 3D printers.
Much of the experience is available to those who have a library card. In some cases, there are some nominal fees for materials.
